With composites offering greater durability and longevity than many traditional engineering construction materials, they can be neglected on inspection and maintenance programs.
In corrosive, chemical or abrasive environments or when not fully protected from the weather and UV by coatings, composites also require inspection and maintenance.
In inert environments, this may be simply a visual inspection of the materials and coatings for mechanical damage; in aggressive environments, full inspection and materials review are required to assess potential chemical attack or abrasive wear.
FCE inspection services use professional engineers and visual inspection, combined with NDT, to provide a complete assessment and recommendations for maintenance and ongoing use of components and structures.
Engineers also offer expertise in understanding applied loads, stresses, and operating conditions, and can comment on common issues resulting from inadequate installation, insufficient structural support, excessive stress and deflection, or cyclic loads that can damage pipes and tanks.
